Isaiah Paige is a street photographer based in Memphis, Tennessee. He shoots after dark — the hours when the city stops performing.
I shoot at night because that's when the city stops performing. Daylight is a costume — after dark, what's left is what's real: a bar window glowing on an empty street, neon buzzing over nothing, kids finding the highest rooftop in the neighborhood.
I'm from Memphis. This is my city the way I actually know it — beautiful and rough in the same frame. I don't stage anything. I walk, I watch, and I wait for the light to do what it wants to do.
Every picture here is about the same thing: finding light in dark places. A doorway. A sign. A face half-lit. That's the whole story as far as I'm concerned — everybody's looking for a little light.
